What is a Settlement Program?

Same as immigration programs, requirements for Canadian Citizenship change with the time. At the moment, Canadian permanent residents, who are living in Canada or outside Canada* can apply for Canadian Citizenship. To obtain Canadian Citizenship, successful candidate must meet the following conditions.
Mandatory requirements:

Applicant should have permanent resident status in Canada.
-Residing in Canada at least three years (1,095 days) in the past five years before applying.

-Temporary status holders such as visitor, student, worker, temporary resident permit holder and protected person can use time they physically present in Canada. Each day spent physically in Canada as a temporary resident will count as half day for 365 days maximum.

-Applicant must have filed income tax in Canada for at least 3 years in the past 5 years before applying for citizenship application.

-Must be at least 18 years old.

-Minors (under 18), applying for Canadian Citizenship are not required to meet the residency obligation, but they must have permanent resident status and one parent should be Canadian Citizen or applying for the citizenship status at the same time.

-Applicant between the age of 18 to 54 should fulfils the minimum language threshold requirements in either English or French.

You can provide one of the following:

-CLB Level 4 in IELTS, CELPIP-G, TEF

-Academic documents such as degree, diploma, certificate from a secondary or post-secondary institution in English or French

-Evidence of CLB Level 4 language training completed from a government-funded language training program in Canada

-Candidates applying for Canadian Citizenship, need to pass the citizenship test. Citizenship test is based on the rights and responsibilities of Canadians, Canadian history, geography, economy, laws, symbols as well as government.

-Applicant should not have any criminal history, as the criminal background will prohibit the granting of Canadian citizenship.

-Successful candidates will be invited to attend citizenship ceremony to take the Oath of Citizenship, in either English or French and receive their certificate of Canadian citizenship.

Who is not eligible:

Permanent resident who

-Cannot meet the residency requirements
-Cannot fulfils the language proficiency requirements
-Cannot pass the citizenship test
-is in prison, on parole, or on probation
-is under a removal order (ordered to leave Canada)
-had citizenship revoked within the past 5 years
-have an ongoing criminal investigation in or outside Canada
-have been convicted of an indictable offence in Canada
