Study Without a Study Permit
In Canada, International students are required to apply for a study permit before coming to Canada for further studies. But in some cases, international students may be exempt from study permit requirements. Following are some scenarios where international students may be exempt for study permit.
Short Term Courses
Short term course is a course that is six months duration or less. Foreign nationals who are in Canada, are exempt from study permit if their course duration is six months or less. However, they required to complete their study within six months period as they are not eligible to extend their visa if they intend to complete a program which is six months or less duration.
Minor Children
Minor children of temporary students, temporary workers, Canadian permanent residents and Canadian citizens are exempt from study permit requirements and may study at pre-school, primary and secondary school in Canada. However, children of those temporary residents are not exempt from the study permit, who are not authorized to work or study in Canada such as visitors/tourists.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada recommend that family members and members of private staff of foreign diplomats are not required to acquire a study permit to study in Canada. Members of this categories are included:
Spouse/Common Law Partner
Dependent child of the individual or their spouse/common-law partner
Dependent child of a dependent child
Members of Foreign Armed Forces in Canada
Foreign nationals and member of armed forces who come to Canada for the purpose of their training for the duration longer than six months are not required to obtain a study permit.
